In his book Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy Mark Vroegop writes: "Lament is how you live between the poles of a hard life and trusting God’s goodness. Lament is how we bring our sorrow to God..."
Damascus Community Church, like many other church families, is a body that has experienced, and continues to experience pain, loss, and sorrow of various kinds. Lamenting those pains, losses and sorrows together is one of the ways that we build up our faith together as those who belong to one another.
With that in mind, on April 7th at 7:00 PM, DCC will be holding a Good Friday Service of Lament in which we will be bringing our sorrows to God as an expression of our trust and faith in Him. In addition to worshiping and learning from the Scriptures together, members of the Elder Council will lead in congregational prayer as we lift our sorrows and pains to Him.
So that we may pray most effectively, we are inviting you the church family, to provide for us, in writing, what you are lamenting. Loss of a loved one? Unbelieving family or friends? Crisis in a relationship? What sorrows, pains and struggles are you enduring, that you would like to offer as lamentations to the Lord? The Elder Council will pray over these confidentially and specifically in our Elder meeting. Then, from what you provide, we will create general themes in which we will lead the church body in prayer during our Good Friday service. Specific and personal details will not be shared during the service.
