base ministry in zambia

Amanda (Titchenal) Boudon just returned from 3 weeks in Zambia training Awana leaders through Sports and the Word. She trained staff, who then trained Zambian staffers, "who then helped train 50+ Awana leaders on how to train others in gospel focused outreach lie sports camp. There was such passion and excitement to learn, study and grow as Christ-followers that it made my job easy!" per Amanda. "We met a man named Humphrey who came early on the first day, eager to see what this whole Base Ministry/Awana training thing was about. At every opportunity, he raised a hand to ask questions, give contributions, or volunteer to read scripture. His enthusiasm and intensity of study were infectious and we appreciated his participation all week long! During our debrief on the final day, Humphrey got up and went to the front of the room, anxious to share his thoughts from the week. What we didn't expect was for him to share an acronym of the word TEACHER he had written that very morning at 2am! After sharing that he hadn't been able to sleep because of his excitement, he summarized what he was taking away from this week in seven phrases including the importance of training, effectiveness, ministering to children, the gospel hand, activities, and others.

Now from a trainer's perspective, the cool part of this anecdote is that our team had talked just the previous day about the language barrier and age difference at the church in Chingola compared to Lusaka. We were concerned that those setbacks had prevented our effectiveness in training. Up until Friday, the daily debriefs had been quiet and minimal, so we had not been able to 'read the room' well and make sure everyone was tracking with us. To hear Humphrey's takeaway and know that he was processing everything he was learning with intentionality was such a blessing."
